Carpenter Bees

We have suddenly been invaded by a huge number of very scary carpenter bees at our house. If you have never seen one, it looks like the biggest bumblebee you've ever seen on steriods. They are nesting in our porch wood, so everytime we go outside the males come up to us to try to scare us away from their females in the nests. Thankfully, the very aggresive males do not have stingers! But, they are the most agressive insect you'll ever see. They actually fly at you to defend the nests. Today, they were so bad that when Cooper was on the back deck playing as usual, I suddenly heard him screaming and crying hysterically. He was so scared, he couldn't even move. Poor Coop! Shelby had just come in crying about her painting she was working on, and wouldn't let go of me when I was trying to go help Cooper. Fun! It has actually been very interesting to learn about them, though. This site has some good info on the big boogers. http://www.uky.edu/Ag/Entomology/entfacts/struct/ef611.htm
